Shaheed El-Hafed, November 28, 2024 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, sent a message of condolence to the family of Gilles Devers, the lawyer for the Polisario Front at the European courts, who passed away on Tuesday after a long illness.
In his condolence message, President Brahim Ghali expressed his heartfelt "condolences and sympathy to the lawyer's family on behalf of the Sahrawi people for the loss of this prominent lawyer, a tireless defender of justice and a loyal friend of the Sahrawi people and their just cause."
President Brahim Ghali added in his message, "Mr. Gilles Devers was an outstanding lawyer who knew how to defend our people before the European courts, against European bodies such as the European Commission and the European Council, supported by European countries and representatives of the occupying Moroccan state."
The message noted that the talent and perseverance of Gilles Devers allowed the Sahrawi people to achieve historic victories over the years in court, as evidenced by various rulings, particularly those issued by the European Court of Justice on October 4, 2024, which led to the annulment of illegal agreements between the European Union and Morocco.
The message emphasized that the remarkable struggle of lawyer Gilles Devers will remain in the memory of the Sahrawi people as a principled man committed to law, justice, and humanitarian solidarity.
President Ghali concluded his message by stating that his passing represents a significant loss, not only to his family and loved ones but also to the Sahrawi people and all the just causes he passionately defended.
