Minister of Education chairs ministerial meetings of 5th Ordinary Session of African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation

Shaheed Al-Hafed, November 7, 2024 (SPS) –Member of the National Secretariat, Minister of Education, Mr. Khatri Addouh, chaired Thursday the ministerial meetings of the 5th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, which will last for two days.

The session is held from 4 to 8 November, 2024, through remote communication technology, under the theme “Strategies and Processes for Effective Transformation of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation for the 21st Century Africa we want”.

During this session, the 5th bureau of the Specialized Technical Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation was elected for a two-year term (2025-2027), where the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic has been elected for a second term as the first deputy for the North African region in the Bureau of this committee, which consists of 5 members representing the regions of the African continent.

The session also approved strategic projects for the coming decade in the fields of education, technical and vocational  education and training, science, technology, and innovation, as well as  the resolutions and recommendations that will be submitted to the African Union Summit in February 2025.

The ministerial session taking place on November 7 and 8 was preceded by a session at the level of officials and experts on November 4 and 5, during which a plenary meeting and two parallel meetings were held; the first focusing on education, technical and vocational education and training, and the second focusing on science, technology, and innovation, chaired by the Sahrawi Republic represented by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Mustafa Mohamed Fadel, and the advisor in charge of African Union affairs, Mr. Hamdi Did.

The 5th Ordinary Session was attended by the Member  State  Ministers  in  charge  of  Education,  Science,  Technology  and Innovation, their relevant Senior Officials and Experts, and Senior Officials and mangers of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation from African Union Organs, Specialized Technical Offices and Agencies, Regional Economic Communities, African Capacity Building Foundation, African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), and African Development Bank, relevant  UN  Agencies,  International  and  Regional  institutions  and  relevant Development Partners.
