Wilaya of El Aaiun (Refugee Camps), 14 October 2024 (SPS) - The president of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Brahim Ghali, said the latest ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) had supported the truths about Western Sahara, stating that "Morocco has no sovereignty over the territory, which are two separate and distinct countries."

The President of the Republic dubbed the European court's decision "historic" and a "great victory for Western Sahara people and for law, justice and legality."

In an address marking the 49th anniversary of the national unity (October 12) on Saturday, Ghali said "October saw some legal advances in favour of the legitimate rights of Western Sahara people and their just cause."

He noted that "on October 16, 1975, the CJEU issued a historic ruling categorically rejecting the sovereignty of Morocco over Western Sahara and confirming that the Saharawi people must be able to fully and legitimately exercise its right to self-determination."

According to Ghali, the latest ruling of the CJEU declaring illegal the trade agreement between Morocco and the European Union, including occupied Western Sahara territories, "reaffirms well-established truths on the issue of Western Sahara, 49 years later, that is, Morocco has no sovereignty over Western Sahara, and the two are separate and distinct countries."
