Shaheed El-Hafed (Sahrawi refugee camps), 3 October 2024 (SPS) - The personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan De Mistura, held a working session on Thursday evening with Sahrawi leaders in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
During this meeting, the Sahrawi side informed Mr. De Mistura of "the position of the Sahrawi leadership based on a single premise, namely allowing the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination as guaranteed by international laws and charters.
The meeting was attended by the minister and advisor to the presidency of the Sahrawi Republic responsible for diplomatic affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Sidati, the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Khatri Addouh, the Minister of Cooperation, Fatima El Mehdi, and the representative of the Polisario Front to the UN and coordinator with MINURSO, Sidi Mohamed Omar.
Furthermore, the UN Secretary-General's personal envoy visited several structures and institutions under the Sahrawi state, including the headquarters of the Sahrawi Red Crescent, where he listened to a comprehensive presentation by its president, Mr. Yahia Bouhbini, about the processes for receiving, storing, and distributing humanitarian aid.
De Mistura then went to a warehouse of the Sahrawi Red Crescent, where he inquired about the Sahrawi experience in humanitarian action, an experience of nearly half a century.
The UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan De Mistura, arrived on Thursday at the Sahrawi refugee camps to meet with the Sahrawi side.
De Mistura's visit is part of the preparation for his briefing to the Security Council on October 16 and is part of his efforts to deepen his contacts with the Polisario Front as well as with the occupying Moroccan state.
