Pretoria, 11 September 2024 (SPS) - The Political Education and Training Committee of the African National Congress held a digital conference on the Western Sahara issue in the Western Cape province of South Africa, with the participation of youth and women’s groups as well as veterans.

The conference, organized on Tuesday, hosted Sahrawi Ambassador Mohamed Yaslem Beisset, who provided a detailed presentation covering the struggle of the Sahrawi people from its inception to the current stage, along with its legal and political dimensions.

Discussions and questions during the conference focused on exploring ways to strengthen solidarity with the Sahrawi people's struggle against Moroccan occupation. Participants discussed necessary political and mobilization programs to support the cause through social media, demonstrations, and visits to Sahrawi territories.

Speakers emphasized the importance of imposing political, economic, and sports sanctions on the Moroccan occupying regime, stressing the need for Morocco to comply with international legitimacy, similar to what occurred with the apartheid regime in South Africa.

Participants also agreed on the necessity of expelling Morocco from the African Union due to its continuous violations of the founding charter and its illegal occupation of the territory of a member state, thereby violating key principles of the Union's founding charter.
