POLISARIO Representative received at Danish Parliament

Copenhagen (Denmark) 7 October 2016 (SPS) - Polisario Front's Representative to Denmark, Mr. Abba Malainin, was received Friday by Mr. Christian Juhl, member of Danish Parliament from the Red-Green Alliance Party.
The Saharawi diplomat briefed his interlocutor about the latest developments with regard to the issue of Western Sahara, the UN peace process, and the Moroccan government’s recent violation of ceasefire agreement of 1991 and its military escalation in Al-Guargarat area.

Death of Sahrawi Child following explosion of cluster bomb in Mheriz area

PCP asks Portuguese government on political prisoners Gdeim Izik

Lisbon (Portugal), October 05, 2016 (SPS) - The deputy Carla Cruz of the Parliamentary Group of PCP and member of the Commissioner of Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities addressed a question, Tuesday, to the Portuguese government on "the situation of Saharawi political prisoners Gdeim Izik group ".
 

UN: 25 countries, including Algeria, to present draft resolution on Western Sahara

New York, October 05, 2016 (SPS) - Twenty-five countries, including Algerie will submit, at the UN General Assembly meeting, a draft resolution on Western Sahara, in which they reiterate UN position over this decolonization issue.
The document is to be submitted to the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) on Wednesday at the latest, UN sources close to the case told APS.
The adoption of the draft resolution is expected next week.

POLISARIO welcomes EU Justice Court judgment to annul EU-Morocco trade and agricultural agreements as it does not apply to Western Sahara (Ould Salek)

New York, October 04, 2016 (SPS) –  Sahrawi Foreign Minister , Mr. Mohamed Ould Salek said that the Frente POLISARIO welcomes the judgment of the EU Court of Justice (CJEU) to annul the EU-Morocco trade and agricultural agreements as it does not apply to Western Sahara. Similarly, the Frente POLISARIO welcomes the legal opinion of the Advocate General of the CJEU that reaffirmed that Western Sahara is not part of Morocco and, as a result, agreements with Morocco that includes Western Sahara has no standing.

New York, October 04, 2016 (SPS) –  the Foreign Minister of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic SADR, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek stressed that The status quo of the issue of Western Sahara is seen as a failure of the UN to keep its promise to the people of Western Sahara to undergo a process of decolonization via a self-determination referendum. Maintaining the status quo would result in grave consequences for the Saharawi people, the region and the African continent.
 

It should be recognized that any country intending to accede to the AU must fulfill the requirements of the AU Constitutive Act (Sahrawi Foreign Minister)

New York, October 04, 2016 (SPS) –  the Foreign Minister of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic SADR, Mr. Mohamed Ould Salek said that Morocco’s intention to join the AU must fulfill the requirements of the AU Constitutive Act and commit to upholding and respecting the principles including respect for borders as inherited the day of independence from colonial rule, and for the right to self-determination during his briefing today in New York.

New York, October 04, 2016 (SPS) –  Sahrawi Foreign Minister , Mr. Mohamed Ould Salek said that Morocco for over twenty-five years, has systematically reneged on agreements signed, and has hindered all efforts by the international community to secure the decolonization of Western Sahara and the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people during press conference Tuesday in New York.
 

UN Fourth Committee reaffirms commitment to Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

New York, Oct 4, 2016 (SPS)- The Fourth Committee of the United Nations in charge of special political and decolonization issues reaffirmed its commitment to the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination by calling to the relaunch of the negotiation process between the Polisario Front and Morocco, stopped since 2012.
The Committee, which opened on Monday a five-day debate on the decolonization issues of 17 non-self governing territories, supported the holding of a referendum in Western Sahara to exercise this right.

Western Sahara: Lower House MPs at General Assembly Fourth Committee meeting

Algiers, October 3, 2016 (SPS) - People's National Assembly (lower house of Parliament) will take part in the meeting of the UN General Assembly's Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) on Western Sahara, to be held in New York early October, the lower house said Sunday in a statement.

Western Sahara: Three UN agencies call to support Sahrawi refugees in Algeria

Algiers, October 3, 2016 (SPS) - The World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) appealed to donors to continue to support food needs of Sahrawi refugees living in Algeria, said the three agencies in a joint statement in Algeria on Monday.
The UN agencies' joint appeal for funding to provide food, housing, health and education in the refugee camps was launched to donors in Algeria on 19 September and will be renewed during the donors' meeting in Geneva, scheduled for late October.

Occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco is illegal

New York, October 3, 2016 (SPS) - The occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco is illegal under international law recalled, in a report of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights in a recent report, in partnership with several other non-governmental organizations and academics.
The report, which was submitted on 28 September to the United Nations Human Rights Council (OHCHR) deals with the issue of human rights in Morocco and includes the detailed recommendations submitted to the OHCHR.

Sahrawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik exposed to reprehension

Rabat (Morocco), October 3, 2016 (SPS) - The prison management of Alargat in the Moroccan city of Salé has molested and beat the Sahrawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik, using a special military contingent belongs to what is called the General Directorate of Prisons.
The contingent intervened violently against the political prisoners of Gdeim Izik after protesting against the confiscation of their own belongings and the harsh procedures introduced against them, which resulted in severe bodily injuries.
