Kenitra, April 19, 2025 (SPS) – Sahrawi civilian prisoner Hassan Dah has started a warning hunger strike in Kenitra Prison, Morocco, in protest against mistreatment, according to a Sahrawi human rights source who spoke to SPS.
The same source reported that the Sahrawi civilian prisoner is refusing food to denounce the violation of his rights in the Moroccan-run Kenitra Prison.
Dah’s hunger strike comes in response to what he describes as verbal abuse by some prison staff, as well as the denial of his legally guaranteed rights, including the confiscation of his privilege to purchase food from the prison store—a punitive measure used by the Moroccan occupation authorities to starve prisoners.
Additionally, the prison administration is violating his right to education by systematically obstructing his academic pursuits. He faces continuous restrictions, particularly in accessing the reference materials and sources necessary to complete his doctoral thesis in International Law and International Relations. This constitutes a clear breach of international conventions that guarantee prisoners’ right to continue their studies.
