Addis Ababa, 15 April 2025 (SPS) - Algeria brilliantly secured a seat on Tuesday on the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) for a three-year term, during elections held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of the 24th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the Pan-African Organization.

Algeria won the election after obtaining the confidence of 34 African countries in the 3rd round of voting, with Libya gaining only 15 votes, while Morocco withdrew from the race, fearing another defeat against Algeria.

Algeria’s success serves as a recognition of its role and standing under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in promoting peace and restoring security throughout Africa.
