Bir Lehlou (Liberated Territories), April 14, 2025 (SPS) – The Office of the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front has issued a statement, the full text of which is as follows:

“Frente POLISARIO

Office of the Secretary-General

Statement

Having read the article published by the Washington Post on 12 April 2025, in which a German journalist of Moroccan origin seeks, without a shred of evidence and with spurious pretexts, to fabricate allegations and falsely impute the charge of terrorism to the Frente POLISARIO.

Being aware of the frenzied campaign of fallacies and distortions embarked on by Morocco, especially in recent months, to achieve the goals of its aggression against the peaceful Sahrawi people and propagate its mendacious propaganda through lobbies on its payroll and some circles close to it.

On behalf of the Frente POLISARIO and the Government of the Sahrawi Republic, we affirm the following:

1.  The Frente POLISARIO and the Government of the Sahrawi Republic condemn the vicious attempts and blatant distortions aimed at imputing the charge of terrorism to the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people for the exercise of their right to self-determination and independence, recognised by the international community (regional and international organisations and courts).

2. The Frente POLISARIO and the Government of the Sahrawi Republic recall their full commitment to the OAU Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism, adopted in Algiers during the thirty-fifth session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African Unity, held in July 1999, and ratified by the Sahrawi State on 16 July  2005, which thereupon deposited its instrument of ratification with the African Commission.

3. The Frente POLISARIO and the Government of the Sahrawi Republic also recall the adhering by the Frente POLISARIO on 23 June 2015 to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocol I, as a national liberation movement, and as a party committed to respecting international law and humanitarian law. All this indicates that Morocco, regardless of whatever it does or claims, will remain an unlawful occupying power that does not have any sovereignty over Western Sahara in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.

4.  The Frente POLISARIO and the Government of the Sahrawi Republic challenge the Kingdom of Morocco and its numerous lobbies to accept a joint investigation, supervised by the United Nations and the African Union and conducted by independent experts, into the actors in the region that have direct or indirect links to terrorism, including smuggling networks and transnational crime in which Moroccan agents have been involved.

5.  The Frente POLISARIO and the Government of the Sahrawi Republic announce their decision to pursue judicial proceedings against any entity or person who propagates, deliberately or inadvertently, lies, accusations or misinformation aimed at tarnishing the spotless struggle of the Sahrawi people, by imputing the charge of terrorism to it, directly or indirectly, and will use all international legal mechanisms in this regard.

6.  The Frente POLISARIO and the Government of the Sahrawi Republic condemn the campaign orchestrated by Morocco, the occupying power, and all those behind it, overtly or covertly, with the aim of making baseless allegations and creating conditions conductive to sustaining the illegal occupation of large parts of the Sahrawi national territory, and obstructing the exercise by our people of their sovereignty and their inalienable rights to self-determination and independence.

7. Five decades of the Sahrawi Moroccan conflict show unequivocally that all solutions that seek to undermine the inalienable and imprescriptible rights of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence will fail, regardless of the many conspiracies surrounding them and the baseless allegations underpinning them. Only a just and lasting solution, based on respect for the will of the Sahrawi people, is the way to establish peace and stability in the region.
