Occupied El Aaiun, 15 March 2025 (SPS) - Moroccan occupation authorities prevented today, Saturday, an international legal delegation from entering the city of El Aaiun in the occupied part of Western Sahara, deporting them on the same flight to Las Palmas Airport in the Spanish Canary Islands, according to the Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons.

The delegation consists of members from the International Association of Lawyers for Western Sahara and the General Council of Spanish Lawyers, including lawyers Inés Miranda Navarro, Dolores Travieso Darías, and Flora Marrero Ramos, as well as technician Silvestre Suárez Fernández.

The delegation aimed to visit the region to assess the conditions of Sahrawi civilians under occupation, particularly the situation of prisoners in Moroccan occupation jails, and to express solidarity with them and their families.

This latest ban is part of the policy of isolating the region and continuing the military and media blockade imposed since 2014, which has previously prevented United Nations rapporteurs and international human rights organizations, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, from accessing the occupied territory.

The Association condemned the prevention of the international delegation from entering Sahrawi territory, stressing that these measures "demonstrate the occupation authorities' abandonment of their obligations under international human rights law and obstruct direct assessment of the human rights situation in Western Sahara."
