Dakhla Occupied, February 6, 2025 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupation expelled Wednesday Spanish journalist Francisco Carrión from the occupied city of Dakhla as part of the siege it imposes on the occupied territories by preventing international observers, human rights activists, and foreign journalists from entering to document its escalating human rights violations.
Hassan Zarwali, a member of the Western Sahara Human Rights Defenders Organization (CODESA), reported on his official social media page that Moroccan occupation forces prevented the Spanish journalist, who works for "El Independiente," from entering the occupied city of Dakhla and deported him from the city’s airport to Madrid on the same flight he arrived on.
Saharawi media reports confirmed that Moroccan intelligence agents detained journalist Carrión at the occupied Dakhla airport and questioned him about his visits to the Saharawi refugee camps.
In his comments on being denied entry to Dakhla, the Spanish journalist highlighted the contradiction between what Morocco calls "the gateway to paradise" and the promotion of tourism, versus the "hell" experienced by the Saharawi people, who long to see their homeland free and independent.
Carrión also pointed out the vast agricultural greenhouses in Dakhla, which the European Court of Justice criticized for exploiting the resources of the Saharawi people without their consent, emphasizing the plight of Saharawi journalists and activists who continue to resist the Moroccan occupation.
