Bir Lehlou (Sahrawi Republic), March 24, 2024 (SPS) - Foreign Minister, Mr. Mohamed Sidati, has called on France to reconsider its policy towards Western Sahara in response to statements made by the French Ambassador to Morocco on March 21, 2024.

Mohamed Sidati, in a statement to the Sahrawi News Agency (SPS), stated that instead of continuing to support the occupation and the Moroccan status quo, "for the sake of balance and justice, it is up to France to reconsider its political position towards Western Sahara and adopt an approach characterized by justice and positive neutrality within the framework of respecting legitimacy and international law in Western Sahara."

"The position expressed by France, as stated by its ambassador to Morocco after years of silence, which recognizes its active role in the colonial invasion against the Sahrawi people, is a long-awaited acknowledgment of historical truth. Through these statements, France has recognized its actions and mistakes in perpetuating this conflict and its active and direct involvement in it until today," said Mohamed Sidati.

He emphasized that "without the active complicity of France, the Western Sahara conflict would not have persisted for so long, and it could have been resolved long ago. This belated acknowledgment is not a secret to the international public opinion."

The Sahrawi diplomat concluded that "for the sake of balance and justice, it is up to France to reconsider its political position towards Western Sahara and adopt an approach characterized by justice and positive neutrality within the framework of respecting legitimacy and international law in Western Sahara."
