Boumerdes, August 18, 2026 (SPS) – The final day of the academic sessions scheduled as part of the program of the 14th edition of the Summer University for Executives of the Polisario Front in Boumerdes featured lectures and interventions on Sahrawi natural resources, Sahrawi media and the Sahrawi cause, as well as firsthand testimonies about experiences of detention in Moroccan prisons.
The first lecture was delivered by Mr. Ubbi Bushraya El-Bashir, Special Adviser to the President of the Republic in charge of natural resources and legal affairs. He spoke about the legal battle over Sahrawi natural resources, highlighting the wealth of resources found in Western Sahara.
In this context, Mr. Ubbi Bushraya affirmed that Morocco’s insistence on maintaining control over the territory, and the support it receives from forces backing it, stems from the wealth it contains and the substantial revenues generated by the Moroccan occupation through the exploitation of these resources.
Mr. Ubbi Bushraya discussed the European Union’s involvement and the gains made by the Sahrawi people and the Sahrawi cause in securing new supporters among members of the European Parliament and European farmers, as a result of the European Union’s violations of rulings issued by the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The second lecture was delivered by Ms. Nanaa Labbat, Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic in charge of the Arab World. She addressed the presence of Sahrawi media in the international media landscape, stressing the need to strengthen and expand this presence by encouraging Sahrawis to engage through social media in order to break through the media blackout and counter misinformation surrounding the national cause.
The third lecture addressed the latest UN Security Council resolution, examining its contradictory elements, the differences between it and previous resolutions, and the background against which the resolution was adopted.
The final academic session also featured an intervention by Mr. Sadeq Boukettaya, a member of the National Liberation Party and a supporter of the Sahrawi cause. He spoke about the comprehensive nature of Algeria’s position in support of the Sahrawi cause, emphasizing that it is not limited to any particular political party or a single civil society component, but encompasses all political currents within Algerian society. He stressed that this right is non-negotiable.
The final academic session also included interventions by student representatives, who spoke about their experiences of detention and the harassment faced by Sahrawi students at Moroccan university campuses.
