Auserd Wilaya, 20 October 2026 (SPS) – The Secretary-General of the Sahrawi Workers’ Union (UGTSARIO), Mr. Nafei Mohamed, stated on Tuesday that commemorating 20 October, National Workers’ Day, provides an opportunity to remember workers’ contributions, sacrifices, and role in building institutions and advancing the struggle for liberation.
In his speech on the occasion, Nafei Mohamed noted that the 20 October operation laid the early foundations for the struggle over natural resources and efforts to confront the causes of colonial presence in the country.
He congratulated all members of the Sahrawi Workers’ Union on their national day.
Nafei Mohamed also expressed his appreciation for the tremendous efforts made by Sahrawi workers to defend their cause in the occupied territories, abroad, and across various fields of struggle. He drew attention to the suffering of Sahrawi political prisoners in the prisons of the occupying power, particularly the heroes of the Gdeim Izik protest movement.
He called on Sahrawi workers to redouble their efforts to confront what he described as the enemy’s policies of depriving people of their rights and livelihoods, plundering Western Sahara’s natural resources, and confiscating land.
