Shaheed El Hafed, 14 September 2026 (SPS) – Member of the National Secretariat, Chief of General Staff of the Army, Mr. Hamma Salama, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Defence, Mr. Mohamed Lamine Mohamed Ahmed, chaired a meeting dedicated to opening the 2026/2027 training year at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence.
The meeting was attended by several members of the Army General Staff, commanders of military schools, and officers from various military sectors in the wilayas.
In his address on the occasion, Member of the National Secretariat, Chief of General Staff of the Army, highlighted the great importance of awareness-raising, mobilization, and fostering a spirit of volunteerism among young people of conscription age. He urged them to join military schools, earn the honour of serving in the ranks of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army, and contribute to the continuation of the national struggle.
The Chief of General Staff stressed that the current phase, with its challenges and requirements, calls on Sahrawi youth—particularly university graduates and those with scientific and technical qualifications—to be at the forefront and contribute their knowledge and expertise to the national liberation struggle.
In this context, he noted that modern warfare increasingly relies on advanced technology and scientific and technical capabilities, which now play an essential and decisive role in various areas of military activity. This makes it necessary to invest in national expertise, develop and train it, and direct it in ways that serve the requirements of the current phase, while strengthening the army’s readiness and ability to keep pace with rapid developments.
He also stressed the need to continue instilling a spirit of responsibility, discipline, preparedness, and sacrifice among young people, considering them a key source of strength for the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army and worthy successors to their predecessors, capable of carrying the torch of the national struggle, continuing the path of the martyrs, and safeguarding the gains of the Sahrawi people.
The meeting featured several interventions by members of the Army General Staff, which focused broadly on the importance of raising the level of awareness and mobilization, as well as the need to develop an integrated action plan bringing together the various national partner institutions. This would ensure unified efforts, strengthen coordination, and expand outreach and guidance for young people of conscription age.
The interventions also underscored the importance of providing suitable conditions for the successful implementation of the 2026/2027 training year and raising the standard of military training and qualification in a manner that meets the requirements of the current phase, strengthens readiness and preparedness, and ensures the continued performance of national duties with efficiency and competence.
