Shaheed El-Hafed, June 8, 2026 (SPS) – The President of the Republic and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, on Monday received the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, at the conclusion of his visit to the Sahrawi side.
During the meeting, President Ghali reaffirmed to the UN envoy the Sahrawi side's support for the efforts he is undertaking on behalf of the UN Secretary-General to reach a peaceful, just, and final solution based on full respect for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and to freely and democratically choose their future, in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the principles of international legitimacy.
The meeting was attended on the Sahrawi side by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat; the Polisario Front's Representative to the United Nations, Coordinator with the MINURSO Mission, National Secretariat member, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar; and on the UN side by Christopher Thornton, Head of the Office of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General.
The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General concluded Monday his visit to the Sahrawi side. The visit included talks with the Sahrawi leadership, as well as meetings with groups representing women's, youth, and human rights organizations, in addition to representatives of the Consultative Council.
