Toledo (Spain), 2 December 2023 (SPS) - Prime Minister, Bouchraya Hamoudi Bayoune affirmed Friday that the Sahrawi people would not accept any solution contrary to international law on the resolution of the conflict in Western Sahara, affirming that the Sahrawi people were determined to multiply all the forms of struggle to recover its independence.

"Throughout half a century of struggle and resistance, the Sahrawis have proved the impossibility of any solution that does not respect international legitimacy and international law,” argued Bouchraya Hamoudi Bayoune at a press conference held before the opening of the 47th Conference of the European Coordination for Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO).

The Sahrawi PM recalled that "Spain remains the administering power in Western Sahara until the end of the occupation" in this non-autonomous territory.

In this respect, he called on Spain to take its responsibilities by assuming the status conferred on it by the United Nations (UN)

In a retrospective of historical events in the Western Sahara, the Sahrawi PM pointed out that "the only solution to which the Sahrawis and the Moroccans agreed under the aegis of the UN was the organization of a referendum on self-determination in the Western Sahara.”

"Morocco accepted the referendum solution in the Western Sahara only when it was convinced that it had lost to the Sahrawis after suffering a crushing political and military defeat,” he asserted.

Besides, the Sahrawi official affirmed that "Morocco today finds itself in an impasse from which it cannot escape because of the reality on the ground", stressing that the Sahrawi people were determined to intensify their political struggle as well as their armed struggle by returning to the situation before the 1991 ceasefire.

In this context, Bouchraya Bayoune pointed out that the Moroccan Kingdom "is incapable of continuing its colonization of Western Sahara.”

"Morocco's recourse to the Zionist entity, which provides it with political, military and diplomatic support, highlights its inability to pursue its occupation on its own,” he insisted.

On Palestine, Bouchraya Bayoune stated that "the Sahrawis back the right to self-determination of all peoples, including the Palestinian people,” noting that both the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples will eventually throw off the colonial yoke.

"As long as people are prepared to fight and make sacrifices, no occupation of any kind can continue indefinitely,” he assured.

Attending the press conference, Pierre Galand, President of the European Coordination for Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, affirmed that European countries were responsible for the suffering of the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples.

"On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Europe is incapable of doing anything other than giving lessons and not applying them itself,” he lamented, calling on these countries to be consistent and end the colonial period.

The EUCOCO Conference will convey the message that "we reject this vision of European countries and that we stand by the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples because they are at the vanguard of the new vision that the peoples of the world share,” he said.
