Shaheed El Hafed, 27 October 2026 (SPS) – South African Ambassador to the Sahrawi Republic, Ndimande Ndimande Ntshinga, visited the headquarters of the General Union of Saguia el-Hamra and Río de Oro Workers (UGTSARIO) on Tuesday, where he was received by Ali Bouya Abiah, Secretary-General of the Sahrawi Engineers’ Union.

During the meeting, Abiah conveyed the rejection by all components of Sahrawi civil society of the US draft resolution, which he said failed to meet the aspirations of the Sahrawi people.

He stressed that the demonstrations taking place in the Sahrawi refugee camps, among Sahrawi communities abroad and in the occupied territories of Western Sahara send a clear message to the international community: any solution that fails to guarantee the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and full independence is destined to fail.

Abiah, who is also a member of the UGTSARIO National Council, added that the Sahrawi people’s mobilisation and unity at this critical moment constitute a natural response to international efforts to revive proposals they have categorically rejected.

The visit comes after the Frente POLISARIO warned that it would withdraw from the entire peace process if the US draft resolution were adopted, calling on UN Security Council members to uphold their responsibilities and respect international legitimacy.

Representatives of the UGTSARIO National Council also attended the meeting.
