Madrid (Spain), November 4, 2025 (SPS) – Spanish political parties have reaffirmed their “firm” commitment to the struggle for the sovereignty and dignity of the Sahrawi people, calling on the Spanish authorities to reverse their support for the Moroccan colonial proposal and to push for the organization of a self-determination referendum.
In this context, the Spanish Communist Party, in a statement, expressed its support for the Polisario Front, stressing its rejection of “ignoring the legitimate aspirations and sovereign will of the Sahrawi people,” and reaffirming its “firm commitment” to the struggle for the sovereignty and dignity of the people of Western Sahara.
The party emphasized that “the only just, serious, and viable solution” to the Sahrawi issue is the holding of a free and fair self-determination referendum without pressure or foreign interference, stressing that any attempt to undermine the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination constitutes “a betrayal of international law.”
For its part, the Sumar party affirmed its rejection of all plans aimed at undermining the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, also renewing its commitment to defending this right as guaranteed by various international conventions.
Meanwhile, the Podemos party reiterated its support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and to benefit from their natural resources, strongly criticizing the “illegal agreement concluded between the European Union and Morocco.”
It also expressed its categorical rejection of the ongoing Moroccan occupation of Sahrawi territory.
