Algiers, 03 November 2025 (SPS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, was received by his counterpart, the Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf.
During the meeting, discussions focused on reviewing and assessing the results of the debates held in October at the United Nations Security Council regarding the question of Western Sahara, and the adoption of Resolution 2797 aimed at renewing the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
The two ministers praised the resolution for maintaining the principles and foundations of a just, lasting, and definitive solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, particularly its emphasis on the necessity of negotiations between the two parties to the conflict — the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front — and its affirmation that the solution must be mutually acceptable. They also highlighted the resolution’s insistence that any solution must enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination. The ministers further welcomed the one-year extension of MINURSO’s mandate, in line with the proposal submitted by the UN Secretary-General to the Security Council.
In light of these developments, the ministers exchanged views on the prospects of the UN-led political process aimed at enabling both parties to reach a just, lasting, and definitive settlement to the Western Sahara issue, guaranteeing the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, in accordance with relevant international legality and the United Nations’ established doctrine on decolonization.
The meeting was attended on the Algerian side by senior officials from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and on the Sahrawi side by the Sahrawi Ambassador to Algeria, member of the National Secretariat, Khatri Addouh, and the First Secretary at the Embassy, Mohamed Sheikh.
