The group is headed by Deputy Pedro Vázquez, President of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Honorable Chamber, and Deputy Margarita García y García. It is composed of a diverse and substantial group of parliamentarians from the PT, PRI, and Morena parties. The event was also attended by members of the diplomatic corps and ambassadors from friendly countries in Africa and Latin America.
The keynote addresses were delivered by Deputy Margarita García and Deputy Pedro Vázquez, who reaffirmed "the historic position of Mexico and its parliament in defense of the Sahrawi State and the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence."
Subsequently, the Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to Mexico, Mokhtar Labeihi, thanked the deputies on behalf of the parliamentary group and reviewed the excellent relations between the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Mexico. He extended the gratitude and congratulations of the President of the Sahrawi National Council (Parliament), Hamma Salama, for the establishment of the Friendship Group, describing it as "a reflection of the excellent state of our parliamentary relations as well."
The various members of the Group conveyed greetings from their respective parties and reiterated Mexico's commitment to continue defending the SADR and its people's right to exist in the community of nations. They also denounced the repression faced by the Sahrawi people under occupation and the ongoing plunder of their natural resources.
