Algiers, 3 November 2026 (SPS) – Sahrawi Ambassador to Algeria and member of the National Secretariat, Khatri Eddouh, affirmed that Morocco’s attempts to liquidate the Sahrawi cause and distort its legal and legitimate nature have failed, stressing that the Sahrawi people will continue their struggle for liberation until they secure their inalienable right to self-determination and achieve independence.
Speaking at an intellectual seminar held as part of the Algiers International Book Fair (SILA), Khatri Eddouh said the UN Security Council’s failure to adopt the draft resolution aimed at undermining the legal foundations of the Sahrawi cause reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to the UN framework, which recognises Western Sahara as a decolonisation issue and upholds the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination.
He added that Morocco, despite relying on political and media forces and financial lobbying groups, had failed to impose a fait accompli that runs counter to international law or erase the identity of the Sahrawi cause and the rights of its people.
The Sahrawi diplomat stressed that the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) was established in 1991 to organise a self-determination referendum, rejecting any attempt to distort its original mandate or use it to impose a fait accompli on the Sahrawi people.
At the end of his address, Khatri Eddouh called for the resumption of a serious process to complete the decolonisation of Western Sahara, ensuring that the Sahrawi people can exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
