Santiago, Chile, 26 October 2026 (SPS) – The Polisario Front Representative in Chile, Hafdella Sheddad, met with Lautaro Carmona, President of the Chilean Communist Party, and its youth wing at the party’s headquarters, in the presence of Claudio Dingre, in charge of international relations.

The meeting addressed the latest political and diplomatic developments concerning Western Sahara, particularly the implications of the Chilean government’s declared support for Morocco’s alleged sovereignty over the territory.

The Sahrawi representative expressed the Polisario Front’s concern over this shift in Chile’s foreign policy, stressing that Western Sahara remains a non-self-governing territory awaiting decolonisation and that any just and lasting solution must respect the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence, in accordance with the UN Charter and relevant resolutions.

The discussions also covered the Chilean delegation’s intervention before the UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, as well as human rights violations in the occupied territories, the plundering of Western Sahara’s natural resources without the consent of its people, and obstacles to completing the decolonisation process.

Hafdella Sheddad praised the Chilean Communist Party and its youth wing for their consistent support for the Sahrawi people’s legitimate struggle and their public opposition to the Chilean government’s policy shift. He emphasised the importance of international solidarity and the commitment of political forces to decolonisation, the right of peoples to self-determination and respect for international law.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of strengthening dialogue and solidarity between the Polisario Front and Chilean political forces in support of a just and lasting solution that guarantees the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.
