Occupied El Aaiun, 2 November 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Prisoners Protection League in Moroccan Prisons reported that the administration of Ait Melloul 2 Prison is pressuring Sahrawi civilian prisoner Ibrahim Ismaili to sign a written statement claiming that he refuses medical treatment, according to information provided by his family.
The League said the move seeks to shift responsibility for the prison authorities’ alleged medical neglect, as Ismaili suffers from chronic respiratory problems, severe pain and swelling in his right leg, which has affected his mobility.
It added that prison authorities had refused to provide prescribed medical bandages and repeatedly postponed urgent medical appointments, while failing to respond to his requests for treatment.
The League strongly condemned the reported pressure, describing it as a violation of the prisoner's dignity and fundamental right to healthcare. It held the Moroccan occupation authorities fully responsible for his safety and any deterioration in his health resulting from continued medical neglect.
