Chahid El-Hafed (Sahrawi Refugee Camps) 23 July 2026 (SPS)- The Sahrawi Working Group on Natural Resources and Related Legal Issues emphasized on Thursday the need to redouble efforts and step up the pace of work to advocate for national sovereignty over natural resources. This came during an evaluation meeting held at the Presidential Headquarters in Chahid El-Hafed, dedicated to reviewing the group's performance over the past year and outlining its priorities and action plan for the coming period.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairperson of the group, Oubi Bouchraya Bachir. Participants heard reports detailing key achievements from the annual action plan, along with briefings on the progress of legal proceedings pursued by the group before European and African judicial bodies to counter the illegal exploitation of Western Sahara’s natural resources.
The meeting featured extensive discussions on the agenda items, as well as a series of proposals and ideas aimed at enhancing the group's performance and expanding its scope. This will ensure the execution of its program's key pillars and achieve the set goals of protecting the Sahrawi people's permanent rights to their natural resources.
On another hand, the group is scheduled to hold an expanded meeting tomorrow, Friday, with several cooperating international experts to discuss updates on legal cases, particularly those pending before European courts, and to explore prospects for legal and diplomatic action across various relevant fronts.
Additionally, on Saturday, July 25, the group will organize a Conference titled "Permanent Sovereignty Over Natural Resources and the Legal Battle." Featuring international experts, the event will address several themes related to permanent sovereignty over natural resources, key legal and judicial developments, and ways to strengthen international efforts to safeguard the Sahrawi people’s rights to their natural wealth.
