Shaheed El Hafed, June 8, 2026 (SPS) – The Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, concluded his visit to the Sahrawi side.
According to a statement by the Polisario Front’s representative to the United Nations and coordinator with the MINURSO mission, National Secretariat member, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, to the Sahrawi News Agency (SPS), the visit included meetings and discussions with representatives of Sahrawi women’s, youth, and human rights organizations, as well as representatives of the Advisory Council.
The Personal Envoy also held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters. The discussions focused on an analysis of the current state of the UN-sponsored peace process and its prospects in light of the three rounds of talks held earlier this year under the joint auspices of the United Nations and the United States.
Mr. de Mistura concluded his visit by holding consultations with the Sahrawi leadership. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Sahrawi side to reaffirm its longstanding position in support of UN efforts aimed at completing the decolonization of Western Sahara on the basis of respect for the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination and independence, while rejecting any solutions that do not guarantee the Sahrawi people their right to freedom and self-determination.
