Stockholm (Sweden), May 22, 2026 (SPS) – The headquarters of the international organization Right Livelihood hosted a special meeting on Friday in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, bringing together the President of the Sahrawi Body Against the Moroccan Occupation (ISACOM) and winner of the organization’s 2019 award, Ms. Aminatou Haidar, with representatives of several international organizations specializing in human rights and freedom of expression issues.
Representatives from Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders, Article 19, and the Olof Palme International Center attended the meeting, which comes within the framework of efforts aimed at shedding light on the human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara and strengthening coordination with relevant international bodies.
During the meeting, Aminatou Haidar delivered a comprehensive briefing on the human rights and humanitarian situation in the occupied Sahrawi territories, reviewing what she described as the ongoing violations suffered by Sahrawi civilians. These include restrictions targeting activists and human rights defenders, the conditions of Sahrawi political prisoners inside Moroccan prisons, as well as practices of intimidation, surveillance, and the systematic targeting of voices demanding the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.
Aminatou Haidar had arrived in the Swedish capital to conduct a series of meetings and activities aimed at raising awareness about the Sahrawi cause and advocating for human rights in occupied Western Sahara.
