Berlin (Germany), 15 May 2026 (SPS) – The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Germany, Mrs. Maria Isabel de Resende, received Friday the representative of the Polisario Front in Germany, Ambassador Mohamed Mamoun Ahmed, in a meeting that focused on the renewed bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as the latest political developments related to the decolonization process in Western Sahara, particularly at the level of the United Nations, the African Union, and the rulings of the European Court.
The two sides exchanged views on ways to support international efforts aimed at reaching a just and lasting solution to the Sahrawi issue, in line with relevant international legitimacy resolutions and guaranteeing the Sahrawi people their right to self-determination.
Ambassador Mohamed Mamoun expressed the deep appreciation of the Sahrawi people and their political leadership for the principled and historic position of the Republic of Angola and its active political forces, particularly the Popular Liberation Movement, praising the pivotal role it plays in supporting just causes, foremost among them the struggle of the Sahrawi people.
For her part, Ambassador de Resende reiterated Angola’s steadfast position in support of the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, stressing her country’s principled commitment—stemming from a similar liberation experience—to continue supporting their struggle and defending it in various bilateral and multilateral forums.
The ambassador further highlighted that the liberation of Western Sahara would serve as a catalyst for unifying the African political front and strengthening continental economic integration.
This meeting, attended by the Deputy Representative in Germany, Mr. Saleh Mohamed Sidi El Bashir, comes within the framework of ongoing coordination and consultation between the Sahrawi Republic and the Republic of Angola, further strengthening the solid diplomatic and fraternal relations established since the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic in 1976.
