CMCAS Gironde reaffirms solidarity commitment to Sahrawi people

Arès (France), August 16, 2026 (SPS) – The Gironde Complementary Mutual Social Action Fund (CMCAS Gironde) organized a solidarity evening on Saturday evening at the CCAS holiday village in Arès in honor of the Sahrawi children, who have been hosted this summer as part of a solidarity partnership that has continued since 2003.

The gathering, organized on the eve of the children’s return to the Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria, brought together the various stakeholders who contributed to the success of their stay in Gironde, as well as representatives of associations, volunteers, and members of the Sahrawi community in the region.

In her remarks, CMCAS Gironde President Ms. Audrey Fornies reaffirmed her organization’s commitment to the values of solidarity and social action, highlighting the importance of hosting the Sahrawi children during the summer. She noted that the initiative enables the children to discover a new environment, share convivial moments, and build bonds of friendship.

The evening also featured remarks by Mr. Saïd Boudjema, President of the Franco-Algerian Federation Aquitaine Plus, who expressed his thanks to CMCAS Gironde for its continued commitment to the Sahrawi children. He stressed that such solidarity initiatives allow the children to enjoy enriching human experiences and create precious memories.

A message from Mr. Mohamed Ali Zerouali, representative of the Polisario Front in France, was also read on his behalf by Mr. Michan Brahim, President of the Association of the Sahrawi Community of Gironde.

In his message, Mr. Zerouali expressed his “deep gratitude” to CMCAS Gironde, its teams, families, volunteers, and all those who contributed to hosting the Sahrawi children.

He stressed that the hosting initiative a deeply human gesture and a concrete expression of solidarity and friendship with the Sahrawi people. He also noted that the experiences the children had in Gironde would remain etched in their memories.

He further emphasized the human significance of such initiatives, which help uphold the universal values of “solidarity, fraternity, dignity, and friendship among peoples,” while reaffirming the Polisario Front and the Sahrawi people’s commitment to the bonds of friendship with the French people.

On the occasion, the Polisario Front representative also conveyed a message of solidarity to the people of Gironde affected by the wildfires this summer, expressing, on behalf of the Sahrawi people, sympathy and support for the families, farmers, volunteers, and others mobilized in response to these hardships.
