Shaheed El Hafed, May 2, 2026 (SPS) – The activities of the Sahara International Film Festival “FiSahara” in its 19th edition concluded Sunday night in the wilaya of Auserd, with a strong emphasis on the role of cinema in supporting the Sahrawi people and defending their just cause.

The closing ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, along with members of the National Secretariat and the government, as well as delegations from friendly countries and audience interested in cultural affairs.

The closing ceremony featured speeches highlighting the importance of the festival and its solidarity-driven background with the Sahrawi people. Contributors and participants in the event were also thanked.

During the week-long festival, films from various countries and continents were screened.

The ceremony honored several entities that contributed to the success of the 19th edition of the festival, including the Polisario Front representation in Spain, the wilaya of Auserd, and the Spanish solidarity movement.

The film that won first place was titled “Todo lo que fuimos,” produced by Javier Bardem.

As for the cultural competition, the wilaya of Dakhla ranked first nationally in the traditional “Mahsar” contest.

FiSahara is considered an important opportunity to explore Sahrawi culture, which faces challenges of erasure and marginalization by the Moroccan occupation, as well as to gain new supporters and advocates for the Sahrawi national cause.
