Gonfreville-l’Orcher (France), April 10, 2026 (SPS) – The mayor of the French city of Gonfreville-l’Orcher, Alban Bruneau, reaffirmed his municipality’s consistent support for the Sahrawi people’s struggle for self-determination and independence, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
In a message addressed to the Sahrawi authorities, the French official highlighted the historic ties of solidarity linking his municipality to the Sahrawi people since 1995, emphasizing Gonfreville-l’Orcher’s long-standing commitment to this just cause.
“We reaffirm our support for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination,” he stated, while stressing the importance of respecting international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The mayor also praised the bonds of friendship and cooperation uniting his city with the Sahrawis, reiterating his municipality’s willingness to continue its solidarity efforts, particularly through hosting Sahrawi children as part of humanitarian programs.
The extended his congratulations to the Sahrawi people on the 50th anniversary of the SADR, renewing his city’s commitment to support their legitimate struggle until their aspirations are achieved.
