Wilaya of Auserd, April 8, 2026 (SPS) – The celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic officially began today, Wednesday, in the wilaya of Auserd, with significant popular and international attendance.
The events, attended by the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisari Front, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Mr. Ibrahim Ghali, along with members of the National Secretariat and the government, feature numerous commemorative activities. These include a welcome speech by the host wilaya, the official address, speeches by some participating delegations, military parades by various units of the Sahrawi army, the opening of traditional handicrafts exhibitions, and sports competitions.
The proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic on February 27, 1976, marked a pivotal moment in the history of the Sahrawi people. It reflected their strong attachment to their just cause and their firm belief in it, signaling a break from a period of colonial domination. It also marked their decision to take up arms against the occupation of their land, becoming a model of liberation among movements striving to free themselves from colonialism around the world.
