AUC Chairperson receives Permanent Representative of Sahrawi Republic

Addis Ababa, March 13, 2026 (SPS) – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received on Thursday at the Commission’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, the Permanent Representative of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic to the African Union, Ambassador to Ethiopia, Lamine Baali.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on issues of common interest between the African Union Commission and the Sahrawi Republic. Both sides reviewed the current state of cooperation and prospects for strengthening it within the framework of joint African action, in a way that serves the objectives of the African Union and enhances its role in addressing the various challenges facing the continent.

The two sides also discussed ways to improve the performance of African Union institutions and develop their working mechanisms to better meet the aspirations of the peoples of Africa for development, stability, and stronger integration and solidarity among member states.

During the meeting, both parties stressed the importance of continuing consultation and coordination within the structures of the African Union, as well as joint cooperation to advance African action and strengthen its role in line with the ambitions and aspirations of the peoples of the continent.

The Sahrawi ambassador was accompanied by Deputy Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Malainin Lekhal, and the cultural and media attaché at the embassy, Rguibi Abdallah.
