Rustenburg (South Africa), January 12, 2026 (SPS) – South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) renewed its firm and supportive stance toward the Sahrawi people and its just cause, reaffirming its historic commitment to the principles of international solidarity with peoples struggling against colonialism and domination.
This came during celebrations held to mark the 114th anniversary of the party’s founding, at Moruleng Stadium in the city of Rustenburg.
The celebration was attended by party leaders and supporters, along with national and international figures. The event featured an address by the South African President and party leader, Cyril Ramaphosa, in addition to the presentation of the annual statement outlining the ANC’s vision and its political and social priorities for the new year.
Within the framework of its international orientations, the party stressed its adherence to a foreign policy based on supporting liberation causes and human rights, renewing its continued backing of the Sahrawi people and its inalienable right to self-determination and independence, in line with the principles of freedom and justice upon which the ANC was founded as a national liberation movement.
The anniversary speech also highlighted the party’s historic role in defending social justice and liberation causes in Africa and worldwide, emphasizing that its support for the Sahrawi cause falls within its traditional positions in support of liberation movements at both continental and international levels, whether within African frameworks or global forums.
The celebration also witnessed the participation of the Polisario Front, represented by National Secretariat member Ms. Fatima El Mehdi, who held several meetings with leaders of the ANC alliance. The Sahrawi Embassy in Pretoria was represented by Counselor Moulay Mohamed Fadel.
