Tifariti University, 21 December 2025 (SPS) – In collaboration between Tifariti University and the HEGOA Institute for Development Studies and International Cooperation, the Arabic translation of the book “Oasis of Memory” was presented on Saturday via videoconference.
The presentation was given by the author Carlos Martín Beristain, with the participation of numerous international and Sahrawi researchers, as well as Sahrawi human rights activists from the occupied territories.
The book presented includes an analysis of human rights violations in Western Sahara since 1975, based on in-depth interviews and testimonies from 261 victims. It also examines the impact of these violations on individuals, families, and women, the various forms of resistance by victims, and their demands for truth, justice, and reparations, in addition to the responses of the Moroccan state.
After the author presented a summary of the book to participants, the floor was opened for interventions. All contributions unanimously emphasized the high academic and scientific value of the book, considering it a key reference for researchers in the field of human rights in Western Sahara. Participants also stressed the need to widely disseminate its content through seminars, workshops, and conferences in order to expose the grave and serious violations committed by the Moroccan occupation against the Sahrawi people, and to file lawsuits and legal complaints before international courts to hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable.
