Dakar (Senegal), 10 October 2026 (SPS) – A delegation of Sahrawi civil society representatives from associations operating in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and the refugee camps is participating in the African NGO Forum in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, alongside the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The participation aims to highlight the human rights situation in the occupied territories, the violations and harassment faced by Sahrawi human rights defenders, and the plight of Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan prisons.
It also provides an opportunity to strengthen ties with African and international human rights organisations and step up cooperation and advocacy before relevant continental mechanisms in defence of the rights of the Sahrawi people, foremost among them their right to self-determination, in accordance with international law and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The delegation includes representatives of the Working Group on Human Rights in Occupied Western Sahara, the Sahrawi Body Against the Moroccan Occupation, the Sahrawi Association for the Protection of Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons, the Sahrawi Collective of Human Rights Defenders (CODESA), and the Association of Families of Sahrawi Prisoners and the Disappeared.
