Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 11 December 2025 (SPS) – The 17th session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Defence, Safety, and Security at the level of Ministers of Defence concluded this afternoon at the AU headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with the adoption of the final report and all proposed documents.
The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic participated in the meetings, represented by Mr. Taleb Ami Deih, Chief of Operations and representative of the Chief of Staff and Minister of Defence of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army, accompanied by Ambassador Lamine Baali, Permanent Representative to the African Union, and Ambassador Malainin Lakhal, Deputy Permanent Representative.
During the official ministerial session, Mr. Taleb Ami Deih delivered a statement on behalf of the Sahrawi Republic, expressing gratitude and appreciation to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for its generous hospitality, and to the African Union and the team of the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security for the efforts that contributed to the success of the session’s work.
He also praised the report submitted by the Chiefs of Staff, which, according to him, reflects the extensive preparatory work carried out by experts and its role in strengthening the effectiveness of the deliberations.
The representative of the Sahrawi Republic emphasized that the meeting is taking place amid a sensitive continental context marked by increasing security challenges, which necessitates intensified coordination and strengthened joint military and security action.
