Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 09 December 2025 (SPS) — The Sahrawi Republic participated in the experts’ meeting of the 17th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety, and Security, held in Addis Ababa on 8–9 December 2025.
The Sahrawi Republic was represented by its Permanent Representative to the African Union, Lamine Baali.
This meeting serves as a preparatory stage for the 20th Meeting of African Chiefs of Defense Staff and Heads of Safety and Security, as well as the Meeting of Defense Ministers, scheduled to take place on 10 and 11 December respectively.
The experts’ meeting reviewed the report of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on the implementation of previous decisions related to peace and security, with a focus on the Silencing the Guns initiatives, funding for peace support operations, strengthening the AU Peace Fund, and updates on continental missions and field initiatives.
The draft report of the experts’ meeting was adopted for presentation to the Meeting of Chiefs of Defense Staff and Heads of Safety and Security, scheduled for 10 December 2025.
