Algiers, 03 December 2025 (SPS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, affirmed that peace and security in the African continent cannot be achieved without eradicating the last pockets of colonialism.
The Sahrawi minister stressed, in a statement to APS on the sidelines of his participation in the 12th High-Level Conference on Peace and Security in Africa, the need to complete the decolonization issues in the African continent, foremost among them the Sahrawi cause.
He recalled in this context that the latest recommendation of African heads of state and government — “Silencing the Guns 2023” — called for direct negotiations between the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco to reach the necessary arrangements and conditions for organizing a referendum on the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.
He added: “The ‘Silencing the Guns’ recommendation, in addition to the recent position of the African Union, is in line with the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council on 31 October 2025, which forms the basic framework for negotiations with the Moroccan occupation in order to enable the Sahrawi people to guarantee their right to self-determination.”
