Stockholm (Sweden), November 6, 2025 (SPS) – The Swedish Parliament hosted a conference on the Sahrawi cause, organized by the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Sahrawi People.
The event was attended by Mr. Oubi Bouchraya Bashir, Adviser to the President of the Sahrawi Republic on Natural Resources and Legal Affairs, and Mr. Gilles Devers, lawyer of the POLISARIO Front, along with a large audience of Swedish parliamentarians, civil society organizations, professors, and students.
Swedish parliamentarians emphasized the need to adhere to the rulings of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) and to reject the new agreement signed between the European Union and Morocco, reaffirming Sweden’s traditional position on this matter.
Mr. Oubi Bouchraya Bashir and the POLISARIO Front’s lawyer discussed the latest agreement between the European Union and Morocco and the numerous violations it entails, particularly concerning the requirement of the Sahrawi people’s consent as a fundamental condition for any agreement, as stipulated by the ECJ. They condemned the European Commission’s position, accusing it of having negotiated for months an illegal agreement behind the back of the Sahrawi people, the legitimate owners of their natural resources, in a non-transparent process that excluded the European Parliament and aimed to impose a fait accompli.
The Sahrawi official announced that the POLISARIO Front has decided to file an appeal before the European Court to annul the agreement, expressing confidence that the Court — which has already established a clear jurisprudence on Western Sahara — will once again uphold the rule of law and justice.
