Bir Lehlou (Liberated Territories), 24 September 2025 (SPS)– The Sahrawi Government issued a statement in the strongest possible terms condemning the speech delivered yesterday by the Prime Minister of the Moroccan occupying state before the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
In a press Release issued yesterday, the Sahrawi Government affirmed that the defiant stance expressed in the statement of the Moroccan occupation regime once again proves that Morocco, as a brutal occupying power, has no political will to comply with the decisions of the United Nations and the African Union regarding the urgent need to reach a peaceful, just, and lasting solution to the decolonization of Western Sahara, Africa’s last remaining colony.

Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic
Press Release
Once again, the Moroccan regime resorts to a tone of defiance and rebellion against international legality and United Nations and African Union resolutions, and persists in its expansionist and colonialist agenda, as reflected in the speech delivered yesterday by the Prime Minister of the occupying Moroccan state before the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Government of the Sahrawi Republic condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the distortions and desperate attempts to misrepresent the truth contained in that speech. The question of Western Sahara is a decolonization issue inscribed on the agenda of the UN General Assembly and its relevant bodies since 1963, in recognition of the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 1514 (XV) on the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.
The Government of the Sahrawi Republic reiterates that the only path to a peaceful, just, and lasting solution lies in the free and democratic exercise by the Sahrawi people of their inalienable and non-negotiable right to self-determination and independence. Any outcome that fails to respect the free will of the Sahrawi people is categorically and entirely unacceptable.
In this context, the Government of the Sahrawi Republic recalls that the joint Settlement Plan of the United Nations and the Organization of African Unity, accepted by both parties to the conflict, Polisario Front and Morocco, in 1988, and unanimously endorsed by the UN Security Council in Resolutions 658 (1990) and 690 (1991), remains the only practical and viable framework based on the consent of both parties. It was on this basis that the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) was established, with the mandate of implementing it.
The obstinate stance voiced by the Moroccan occupation regime at the UN General Assembly once again demonstrates that Morocco has no political will to abide by UN and AU decisions on achieving a peaceful, just, and lasting resolution to the decolonization of Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa.
It further demonstrates that the rogue Moroccan occupying state persists in its defiance and contempt for the very principles on which the United Nations is founded, including adherence to international law, the defense of peoples’ rights to freedom and independence, and the prohibition on acquiring territory by force. This requires a firm and decisive response from the international community, led by the United Nations.
The time has come for the Moroccan regime to realize that neither it, nor the forces of injustice and aggression backing it, can turn back the wheel of history. The Sahrawi people remain steadfast and determined in their legitimate struggle until they achieve their non-negotiable objectives of freedom, independence, and the restoration of sovereignty over the entire territory of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
