Lanester, July 31, 2025 (SPS) – The City of Lanester held an official ceremony in honor of the Sahrawi children hosted this summer as part of its solidarity program.
The event, held at the Town Hall, brought together Mr. Gilles Carréric, the Mayor, several local officials, representatives from the ALCCJS56 association, volunteers, and a large audience.
For decades, Lanester has opened its doors every summer to Sahrawi children from refugee camps. This year, seven children, along with their companion, were welcomed into Lanester families.
In his welcoming speech, the Mayor emphasized that this initiative is part of the municipality’s cherished tradition of international solidarity.
He highlighted the importance of this immersion, which allows these children to experience another culture and, for a few weeks, escape the harshness of life in refugee camps.
Mr. Mohamed Ali Zerouali, the Sahrawi representative in France, commended Lanester’s unwavering generosity.
He warmly thanked the municipality, volunteers, the ALCCJS56 association, and the host families.
