Rome (Italy), July 16, 2025 (SPS) – The Italian Chamber of Deputies opened its doors this morning to Sahrawi children from the refugee camps, as part of the summer hosting program sponsored by the Polisario Front’s representation in Italy and the Italian Network of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People.
The children, hosted in several municipalities of the Lazio region, were warmly welcomed. The event was attended by deputies including the Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and several members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Sahrawi People.
The Sahrawi delegation was led by the Polisario Front’s representative in Italy, Fatma Mahfoud, who thanked Italian institutions, municipalities, and associations for their unwavering commitment, which makes this solidarity initiative possible year after year. Fatma recalled the harsh living conditions in the camps and the symbolic significance of this encounter.
During the meeting, Italian deputies reaffirmed their commitment to the just cause of the Sahrawi people, stressing the importance of enhancing the role of European and international institutions in advancing a peaceful, just, and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara.
