Sahrawi delegation participates in AU-EU Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in Rome to achieve sustainable food security

Rome (Italy) 27 June 2025 (SPS)– A delegation from the Sahrawi Republic participated today, Friday, in the Sixth Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture from the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU). Hosted in Rome, Italy, the meeting aimed to bolster African-European cooperation in the agriculture sector, ensuring the achievement of sustainable food security.

The Sahrawi delegation was led by Mr. Baba Fdeid, Sahrawi Minister of Economic Development, accompanied by Mr. Lamine Baali, Sahrawi Ambassador to Ethiopia and its Permanent Representative to the African Union, in addition to Ms. Fatima Mahfoud, Representative of the Polisario Front in Italy.

Discussions at the meeting focused on enhancing joint cooperation in agriculture and rural development, formulating sustainable agricultural policies, and supporting efforts to achieve food security for both continents.

In his intervention during the meeting, the Sahrawi Minister emphasized the profound importance of this event and its pivotal role in realizing sustainable development and economic integration.

He also stressed the necessity of intensifying joint efforts to implement the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the United Nations' 2030 Agenda, which will open new horizons for growth and cooperation between Africa and Europe.
