Dili (East Timor), May 22, 2025 (SPS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Cooperation of East Timor, Mr. Bendito dos Santos Freitas, reaffirmed on Thursday that East Timor remains steadfast in its support for the legitimate aspirations of the Sahrawi people for self-determination and independence.
He urged the international community to renew its commitment to a peaceful and just resolution of the Western Sahara issue.
This came during the minister’s speech on behalf of his country at the Regional Seminar for the Pacific Region, organized by the Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples (Committee of 24) under the United Nations General Assembly.
The seminar began its proceedings on Wednesday in Dili, the capital of East Timor.
