Alicante (Spain), May 16, 2025 (SPS) – The "Montañeta" square in front of the local government headquarters in Alicante witnessed a vibrant welcoming ceremony to mark the arrival of the Freedom March for Sahrawi Political Prisoners, led by Claude Mangin. The event in Alicante served as a stand demanding the release of all Sahrawi political prisoners held in notorious Moroccan occupation jails, particularly the prisoners of Gdeim Izik.
The march received a warm welcome from Mr. Juan Antonio Nieves, Deputy Head of the Alicante Local Government, who expressed his happiness that the Freedom March for Sahrawi Political Prisoners passed through Alicante. He reaffirmed his support for the Sahrawi cause until the Sahrawi people achieve their right to self-determination.
Amid national slogans, raised flags, and banners, the Sahrawi community, in their speeches, called on the Spanish government to correct its course and uphold its moral and legal responsibilities toward the Sahrawi people. They urged Spain to pressure the Moroccan occupation to release all Sahrawi political prisoners.
The march garnered significant media attention, with Radio Cadena Ser Alicante hosting Claude Mangin for an on-air interview. She discussed the Freedom March, which began on March 30 in Ivry-sur-Seine, near Paris, and is heading toward Kenitra Prison in Morocco, where her imprisoned husband is held. She explained the circumstances and motivation behind organizing this long journey to demand justice for Sahrawi political prisoners.
