El Aaiun Wilaya, August 6, 2026 (SPS) – The proceedings of the Fifth Congress of the Union of Students of Saguia El-Hamra and Río de Oro (UESARIO) continued for a second consecutive day in El Aaiun Wilaya under the slogan: "Sahrawi Students: Commitment and Steadfastness to Assert Our Existence."
During the day's session, the narrative and financial reports were presented. Delegates discussed and approved both the narrative and financial reports submitted by the outgoing Secretary-General.
The delegates' interventions and discussions focused on the situation of Sahrawi students both at home and abroad, their role in the national struggle, and the need to better organize and strengthen student engagement, defend their rights, and identify the most effective ways to enable Sahrawi students to play their role in the struggle for liberation and nation-building.
The interventions addressed the role that the UESARIO should play as a mass organization and a component of the political organization and the Polisario Front in instilling the values of struggle among students and strengthening ties with international student unions in support of the Sahrawi cause.
The students' contributions highlighted the conditions of Sahrawi students in the occupied territories and at university campuses, as well as the repression and abuses they face.
The congress continues this afternoon with presentations of the work of its committees, covering the National Action Program, the Basic Statute, and the drafting of messages and recommendations.
