Valencia (Spain), 10 May 2025 (SPS) – The Freedom March for Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails continues to rally international support for the political prisoners' cause. The march arrived in the Spanish city of Valencia, its sixth stop, where it was met with both popular and official reception, reflecting the growing wave of solidarity with the Sahrawi people's struggle.
Yesterday, Thursday, the city hosted a series of events at the local workers' union headquarters, beginning with a press conference and a lecture by French activist Claude Mangin, the wife of Sahrawi political prisoner Naama Asfari. She delivered a moving testimony about the conditions of prisoners in Moroccan occupation jails, shedding light on the severe violations they endure and the daily suffering of their families due to Morocco’s systematic policies of retaliation and repression.
The event also featured an open discussion with the audience, where participants unanimously expressed solidarity with the march and its demands for the immediate release of all Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan jails.
Notably, the march, which began in France on March 30, will continue its activities in Valencia, with planned conferences at universities, meetings with lawmakers, and engagements with local press. It will then proceed to other stops before reaching Algeciras, its final European destination, before heading to Morocco—specifically to Kenitra Prison, where many Sahrawi political prisoners of the Gdeim Izik group are imprisoned.
