Bouzakarn (Morocco), April 24, 2025 (SPS) – Sahrawi political prisoners Abdallah Hafed (Toubali) and Mohamed Juna Babbeit have announced their intention to begin a 24-hour warning hunger strike starting this Thursday, according to human rights activists sources in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

The same sources report that the two prisoners have decided to take this peaceful protest action in response to the continued silence of prison authorities regarding their demands, particularly concerning their deteriorating health conditions and the urgent need to transfer them to external medical clinics for specialized examinations and treatment.

In a statement, the two Sahrawi detainees called on "all people of conscience to pressure the Moroccan occupation state until it responds to their legitimate demands, in line with the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention’s resolution calling for their release—along with all other members of the Gdeim Izik group and the remaining Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails."

Additionally, Abdallah Hafed (Toubali) and Mohamed Juna Babbeit demanded their right to proper medical care, as they have been denied external medical treatment for the past five years, despite suffering from chronic illnesses. They also called for an independent investigation into the torture they have endured under the orders of Moroccan prison officials.
