Occupied El Aaiún, April 12, 2025 (SPS) – The families of Sahrawi political prisoners of the Gdeim Izik group have joined the international campaign and march demanding the release of Sahrawi civilian detainees. The initiative was launched by Claude Mangin Asfari, wife of Sahrawi political prisoner Naâma Asfari, alongside the Sahrawi diaspora, starting from the outskirts of Paris (France) on March 30, 2025, according to the Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Political Prisoners in Moroccan Jails.
The decision to participate in the International March for Freedom was announced during a meeting of Gdeim Izik prisoners' families in occupied El Aaiún on Friday, despite the heavy police siege imposed by Moroccan repression forces.
Only a few families of Sahrawi political prisoners, some Sahrawi journalists, and a group of Polisario Front activists managed to reach the house where the meeting was scheduled to take place, the same source reported.
Attendees praised the international campaign and called for the release of all political prisoners, particularly those from the Gdeim Izik group.
The march, covering a distance of 3,000 km, is the first of its kind in the history of international solidarity with Sahrawi political prisoners. It represents a crucial opportunity to expose the crimes of the Moroccan occupation and its grave violations against unarmed Sahrawi civilians.
From the Sahrawi Refugee Camps, the Ministry for Occupied Territories and Diaspora Affairs officially announced the launch of the International Campaign for the Release of Sahrawi Political Prisoners under the slogan "Freedom for Sahrawi Civilian Prisoners in Moroccan Jails"
